THE YEAR OF THE YIN FIRE ROOSTER - JANUARY 28, 2017 TO FEBRUARY 15, 2018
The Chinese record time in sixty year cycles which bring together the five elements with each of the twelve animal years. This ensures that each element influences each animal sign only once during the sixty year cycle. The 12 animals in order are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The 5 elements are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal.
The story of how the animals were chosen says that when Buddha found enlightenment beside an old oak tree he invited all the animals to his kingdom to celebrate. Only 12 animals arrived and Buddha rewarded them by bestowing their name to each New Year – in order of their arrival. The Rooster was the 10th animal to arrive. Each animal has a natural element which influences its core trait and in addition is also influenced by the element governing the year. The natural energy of the Rooster is Yin and natural element of the Rooster is Metal, and 2017 is governed by the element of Fire, so 2017 is the Year of the Yin Fire Rooster.
If you were born in a Fire Rooster year …. (1957, 2017)
The Fire Rooster is said to correspond with the western sign of Virgo and is considered to be honourable and upstanding. The quality of the element of Fire is “Expanding” and “Activating”, and its season is Summer.

What can the world expect in the Year of the Fire Rooster ....
There will be a lot of fluffing of feathers and crowing about things, but will there be action to back it up? Last year was a Fire Monkey year; marked by ambition, determination, dynamism and activity. There was much tension in the world and unexpected happenings with Brexit in the United Kingdom and the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. Tension between the western countries and Russia and China had the world feeling uncertain and precarious. So what lies ahead?
Again that dynamic fire energy is front and centre. There will be much talk and fluffing of feathers and egos and there will also be much action to back it up. It will be a year of immense changes and challenges and people need to brace themselves for what is coming. So prepare for a year of surprises and unexpected events as it is a year for you to make things happen for yourself!
Politically there could be a great deal of unrest, instability and clashes between nations. Yin Fire over Metal suggests disasters to do with guns, fire and explosions. However, the Yin Fire Rooster year with fire on top of metal brings optimism and progress. So in spite of disharmony between nations the general population should be confident and find solutions to world problems.
Those born in the year of the Ox, Snake and Dragon should have a harmonious year in the Yin Fire Rooster year. For those born in Rabbit year 2017 it will not be so harmonious as Rabbit is in direct clash with Rooster. Travel is recommended for Rabbit people, and making changes in home or career can bring success.
