Aromatherapy
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy has been practiced
by the ancients for thousands of years. All remedies for chronic
ailments, pain and disease were derived from plants and herbs
and used for cures and therapeutic purposes.
Throughout history the
art of natural healing was a serious science and practiced
by priests, doctors and medicine men from China to America.
The Egyptian’s used aromatic
oils for both medicinal and religious purposes. When embalming
mummies the linens were soaked in frankincense and myrrh oils,
and burning incense and oils were often used in their temples
and tombs.
Aromatherapy is the use
of pure oils extracted from plants, trees, barks, and other
natural materials that are considered therapeutic or medicinal.
The most common method
of extracting these powerful and potent oils are through a
distilling process and by boiling or steaming them , this
process helps preserve their fragrance and healing properties.
These essential oils are then used during massage, added to
inhalants, steam vaporisation, whilst bathing and infusions.
Pure oils are found to
absorb quickly through the skin layers and into the lymphatic
and blood system. When applied directly to the skin or taken
orally they can positively affect metabolism and the nervous
system as well as other organs of the body.
The oils have been used
to help restore harmony between body and mind and beneficially
affect the way we think, look, and feel. In modern times,
aromatherapy is used to promote health, balance and wellbeing,
it is also used to enhance one’s state of mind and sensuality
.
It is found that different
combinations of essential oils are beneficial for various
ailments, these then are used according to the treatments
required .
Because the oils are very
potent and powerful, only small amounts are required for any
treatments, these oils attack bacteria better than any other
known natural substance without affecting healthy tissue.
In general Aromatherapy
is a therapeutic and medicinal therapy that incorporates the
use of oils to promote and maintain health and vitality with
the added pleasure of divine smells that accentuate the senses.
Many of these pure oils
can be used in beauty therapies that will help maintain a
youthful and vibrant complexion, as well a creating balance
mentally and physically.
We recommend that
essential oils are purchased from a reputable retail store
to ensure quality products, as artificial fragrant oils do
not create the result that pure oils do.
