You’ll often hear astrologers talk about planets being ‘retrograde’ or ‘out of phase’. In its simplest form, a retrograde occurs when Earth passes a planet, making that planet appear to slow down, stop, then move in a reverse direction. It’s an optical illusion similar to that of passing a car that’s slower than yours. As you hoon on by and glance up at your rearview mirror, the slower car appears to be going backwards.
