Self-proclaimed psychic Cindy Uwanawich, who also goes by the surname McKinney, has been arrested twice for allegedly embezzling large sums of money from her psychic victims.
In December 2012, Uwanawich was seized by local police for telling a client that shelling out $9,000 would rid the latter of a dead stalker that had clung from her past life. The psychic, 56 years old then, persuaded the client to give her nine pennies, nine nickels, nine dimes, nine quarters, and $9,000 for nine days in order to remove the spirit. She promised that she would give back the money afterwards, which she did not.
Uwanawich operated “The Psychic Door” in Crestline and “The San Bernadino Psychic,” which are both in California. From these unregistered businesses, she was able to dupe a total of eight people and embezzle more than $238,000. The psychic got arrested on January 18, 2013, but apparently, she was able to pay her $50,000 bail before getting charged.
Then, on May 20 this year, Uwanawich was arrested for felony Grand Theft in Yucaipa, California, but this time, she was seized together with her husband Nick. The couple were detained in the Central Detention Center with a half million bail.
Police detectives are encouraging other victims of fraudulent psychics to come forward in order to prevent more people from falling into their tricks.
