It has been in the news lately that the zodiac sign dates have been changed.
And adding to the confusion is the adding of a 13th sign to the mix — Ophiuchus, which would cover Nov. 29 – Dec. 17, which would leave Scorpio with only a six-day gap (Nov. 23 – Nov. 29).
This means that a Virgo may now be a Leo, an Aquarius – a Capricorn, and a Taurus – an Aries.
This controversy started after astronomer Parke Kunkle reported that because of the gravitational pull of the moon, the age-old constellations corresponding to a person’s birthday may be off by about a month. So your zodiac sign before may not be your zodiac sign anymore.
According to Kunkle, as expected, as the Earth and the sun slowly move about, the zodiac signs also progressively change.
Kunkle explained that relative to the Sun, the Earth is presently in a different spot and its equatorial alignment has changed from 3,000 years ago, back when 12 zodiac signs were assigned to 12 different periods of the year when the study of astrology started.
He also added that the signs you were born into that you have previously known are different now due to the Earth’s vibration on its axis which has produced a one-month bump in the alignment of the stars.
Kunkle’s comments started a firestorm that made people wonder if their zodiac signs were changing as astrologers rushed to disprove the claim.
But according to Cambridge astrologer Joyce Levine, the zodiac signs have not changed for “The precession of the equinoxes does not affect Tropical Astrology, which is primarily what is use in the western culture. Tropical Astrology is based on the seasons; Aries, the beginning of spring; Cancer, the beginning of summer; Libra, the beginning of fall, and Capricorn, the beginning of winter.”
