California- A religious sect was already preparing to leave after they were found by Los Angeles County Officers in California on Sunday.
The Breakaway religious sect was found with their women praying with their children on a blanket at a local park.
Since Saturday afternoon, the police had already been looking for five women and eight children. The search started after the husbands of two missing women had submitted to the Los Angeles County Police some letters that their wives left behind, including some purses with cellphones and documents.
In the letters, phrases like “taking refuge” and “going to heaven” were mentioned. The women also wanted their families to join them. One of the husbands said that his wife was a member of a cult that has been brainwashed by their cult leader, Reyna Marisol Chicas.
The search covered a large swath around Antelope Valley and the Vazquez Rocks area.
“It looks like it was an elongated prayer session. The initial worry was that perhaps they were going to do harm to themselves, but they were just here sitting on blankets, and everyone was fine. They had no idea about the search that had been going on,” said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Sheriff’s office.
“They said they were praying to stop violence in schools and for people to abstain from sexual activity until marriage,” Whitman added.
The police took the cult leader, Chicas, for questioning. As of Sunday afternoon, there have been no charges pressed yet.
Chicas, according to her neighbors, was a member of the Iglesia De Cristo Miel which is a Christian congregation in Palmdale.
