Every warlock who worships the goddess of the moon does not like curfews. But this is not only the problem for warlock, Cerwyn Jones, after he gets punished by a court for bringing a five-inch ceremonial knife to a pub. Jones was sentenced to stay indoors between the hours of 7 in the evening to 7 in the morning for four months.
In response to this, he quickly pled for special Wiccan circumstances.
Since Jones needs to practice his Wicca faith on full moon nights, the magistrates agreed to suspend this order on four nights.
Wicca is otherwise known as white witchcraft that grew especially popular in the 20th century. Part of this neo-pagan religion is the belief that the whole cosmos is alive. With it, the waxing, waning, and the full moon are all important.
During the full moon, groups of warlocks meet at least once a month and select one to officiate the “magic” ceremonies that are done in honor of the gods and goddesses of Wicca.
Jones was arrested by the police after a tip off that they received. It has been known that he had been visiting his ex-wife in Bala while carrying the said knife that had carvings of goddesses on the handle. They were afraid that it would be used for self-harm or for harming others.
It turned out that this is not the first time that Jones was arrested by the police. In 2003, he was also arrested for firearms offenses and for making threats to kill. However, he was also released in September 2005.
He explained later on that he had turned to practice Wicca after he was released from prison. He said that he, himself, is a practicing warlock.
‘I believe in the god of the sun and the goddess who represents the moon. Of course I was glad the magistrates lifted the curfew for the time of the full moon – but I would have liked my ritual instrument back,’ said Jones.
