A woman has been accused of killing a man using a ritualistic dagger during the Wiccan celebration of Spring. The man allegedly murdered was invited by the woman herself to the celebration.
Angela Sanford, the woman accused of killing Joel Leyva, was found in the crime scene in her underwear. On the other hand, Leyva was found with 13 stab wounds. The accused pleaded not guilty today in an Alburquerque, N.M. court.
According to Pat Davis of the Alburquerque District Attorney’s Office, “Sanford is currently facing a single count of murder and she’s being held on $500,000 bond,”
In Sanford’s statement, she revealed that she had only met Leyva a few days before the attack happened and that she invited him to join her since she was going up to the mountains to celebrate the Beltane.
The Beltane is a celebration of spring which is normally held at the end of April or the start of May by the followers of Wicca.
According to the accused, she met Leyva on a hiking trail and had a few beers and tequila with him. She further said that Leyva tied her arms and made sexual gestures on her.
“Angela advised the dagger was to be used as part of her Wicca ritual. Angela stated she was in fear that Leyva was going to rape her,” the report said.
Statements said that to keep Sanford from being raped, she had to pretend to seduce him and when she went free from the rope that tied her arms, she slipped her arms around Leyva and laid him on his back. She then removed her clothing and left only her underwear on. She stabbed Leyva 3 times in the stomach area.
