There is no easy way to break up. It’s emotional, it’s hurtful and generally there is a level of pure heartache.

If you know a relationship is not working, and you feel in your heart that you have done everything you can, and compromised to your limit, then don’t procrastinate; leave now so you can both get on with your lives. And if this is the case, set about making plans so you are not left on the street with a broken heart.

1. If you live together, look for other places to live, it may be good for you to share with someone so you have company, remember, you are emotionally hurt and this is the time to be nice to yourself with nurturing and to reach out to those who love you.

2. Visualize how your life will be without your partner. Think about the things you will do without him or her.

3. Buy a journal and write down all the positive things you will do by yourself

4. Focus on you! You are the most important person in your universe. Even if you have kids or pets, you still need to be functioning well to look after them, so make sure you look after yourself.

Breaking up is hard to do, but it is not insurmountable and if your situation is abusive then there are people who can help you get through it; do yourself a big favor and start reaching out for help – you deserve it!
