Just because you have an argument doesn’t mean you have to

Often, it’s not the argument that is important it is how you handle it that makes the difference. Simply because life is stressful at times, you can find yourself in a bad mood and sometimes, you can take it out on the person you are closest or maybe even nearest to. Can you get through a bad time in a relationship? Yes you can and here are a few hints on how to do it.

1. Recognize your part, there are always two sides and two stories, chances are, you are not blame free.

2. Be prepared to reach out, even if you are the one to do it all the time, only one person needs to reach out to change the energy.

3. Communicate with an open heart, say how you feel, rather than blame the other person

4. Don’t be reactive, or aggressive, soften your approach and tone of voice.

5. If you need time out to go and think about things, say so, and get your thoughts together.

6. Don’t make any rash decisions, let emotions settle. Be careful you don’t say something you may regret or don’t mean.

7. You can agree to disagree; it is ok to have another opinion as long as you accept that someone else also has a different opinion.

8. Forgive, forget and move on!
