Be a savvy socializer – how to meet people over the holida

It can be difficult to put yourself out there and open up to meet new people, and with the holiday season here, then is a great time to fine–tune your networking skills. Read on to find out how to put your nerves aside and get prepared to socialize.

1. Read up on local and international news. Get ready with some general knowledge topics you can use as conversation starters. Open the news sites on the internet to see what’s happening on a world scale, and buy the local newspapers to catch up on the latest information in your area.

2. Think of ways you can compliment people, the clothes they wear, a new hair style, or what they have achieved this year. When you take the time to recognize someone’s skills or accomplishments, it won’t go unnoticed.

3. Keep your topics light and fun; don’t get bogged down in heavy topics that people have strong views about. Think of happy situations that are fun.

4. Pull out your camera or phone and take some happy snaps, this get’s people together and smiling.

5. Remember to ask more questions that you answer. Get prepared in advance with questions you can ask, but keep them general, don’t get too personal.
