I f you are alone these holidays, how to get out of a rut!

When you are alone and feel lonely you can fall into a habit of allowing yourself to be alone and cut yourself of from the world outside of your walls. Here are a few ways you can integrate and allow yourself to feel safe in a big world.

1. Take one day, one hour or one minute at a time. Set small achievable goals that allow you to take one small step at a time. Don’t tackle something that’s too big, be nice to yourself and don’t put undue expectations on what you need to do or feel you should do.

2. Make a shopping list and instead of doing all your errands at once, do a few things at a time, so it forces you to get out and about.

3. Join a club, dancing, the gym, or a book club, whatever it is that interests you, and this way you will be sure to meet like–minded people.

4. Make commitments. Arranged to meet people at a given time and place. Even if it is just to go for a walk; when you make a commitment with someone it is not as easy to back out at the last minute.

5. Get involved in community work. When you give something back, it fills your heart with joy and happiness to know you are helping someone else live a better life.
