Full Version: Tuesdays lunar eclipse?

In March, when the last luner eclipse occured, disturbing things like my health, finances and relationships just went wacky on me. As though the things that were going on I could neither control nor understand. Two psychics have told me it all had to do in part with the luner eclipse that had occured during that month of March.

Now, when I feel like the "joy ride" is slowing down and I can feel much more at ease; what do you suppose I see in the news is going to happen next tuesday? Another luner eclipse! Ohhhh boy, . . . blink.gif

After the episode in March, I have become a just little more interested in astrology and events in the universe. I found a site this moring that listed dates of luner eclipses from the past two years and you know, those were periods when life changing events occured.

My questions are: What sorts of changes or shake ups did others experience?
Can someone shed a little more light onto luner eclipses for me? Suggest reading or websites?

I am curious, almost excited, as to what sorts of things happen after next weeks event. -Both personal and global; hopefully positive things. If not much does that is fine; but at least I feel like my eyes are open this time around! cool.gif

For me, personally, I get quite excited about eclipses (solar or lunar) and I'm really looking forward to next Tuesday's lunar one.

Below I will paste in some info about it (especially for Noir actually as we were discussing the topic of "Blood Moons" yesterday.) We were wondering about the supposed perceptions of a Blood Moon (from old folklore etc.)

---- The following is a copy/past from Melbourne's Age newspaper ---- sorry if it appears a bit truncated:

August 24, 2007 - 2:09PM
Soon after sunset on Tuesday August 28, the Moon will turn red.

Thanks to science, we know that the so-called "blood moon" isn't a sign of impending doom, as believed in ancient times, but the result of a total lunar eclipse.

And the good news for Australians is that we have box seats for this rare cosmic event.

From approximately 6:00pm (AEST) the Earth will become aligned between the Moon and the Sun, stopping the Sun's light from reaching the Moon.

In a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun.

The last time a total lunar eclipse was visible in Australia was 4 May 2004. The next one won't be for another three years: It is predicted to occur on 21 December 2010.

Director of Observations at Queensland's Springbrook Observatory, Andre Clayden, says it's safe to view a lunar eclipse.

"If we're talking about a solar eclipse, we're looking at the sun, and that is always dangerous," he says.

"But this is a lunar eclipse. No special equipment is needed apart from warm clothing and somewhere to sit.

"You don't need a telescope and you don't need binoculars to see the moon, you'll see this with your own eyes."

The reason for the eclipsed moon's blood-coloured hue is due to light from the sun passing through the earth's atmosphere, blocking blue and green light, and allowing red and yellow to pass through.

"The red light passes through it much better than blue light, which is blocked by dust and other stuff in the atmosphere," Clayden says.

Blood moons have in the past been associated with angry gods or predictions of doom.

"The ancients used to see this as a bad omen. Some cultures used to throw stones at the moon cause they thought it was being consumed by a dragon. They also thought that something turning the colour of blood was something bad," Clayden says.

In 1504, Explorer Christopher Columbus used this belief to help him during his final trip to the West Indies.

After several months of being marooned with his crew on the island of Jamaica, relations with the indigenous population soured and the supply of food stopped.

Fearing starvation, Columbus was aware that a total lunar eclipse would occur on 29 February 1504. He told his 'hosts' that if they did not assist him and his crew, the Gods would paint the moon red as a sign of their anger.

Right on cue the lunar eclipse occurred, leaving the indigenous population believing Columbus possessed supernatural powers.

As is the case for most astronomical 'spectaculars', weather will be a factor.

Lindsay Gilbert from the National Meteorological and Oceanographic Centre says conditions are expected to be most favourable in NSW and Queensland.

"There will be some cloud up the coast north of Fraser Island, but it should be clear south of there through to Sydney," he said.

"South of Sydney there will be cloudy conditions over Canberra, Victoria, Tasmania and up to Adelaide."

"A front is approaching Perth, with onshore winds which may add a bit of low level cloud."

The Discovery channel is hosting a live broadcast of the eclipse on the internet, including a live webchat with Clayden.

"We are using a small telescope with a webcam in the back and will broadcast the images," he said.

"The telescope will track the moon from start to finish during the lunar eclipse and broadcast in real time the images."

To ensure that the webcast isn't clouded out, organisers have enlisted the help of telescopes across the country.

"We have telescopes right up the eastern seaboard. There is one at the Talbot observatory in Victoria and another in Tasmania," he said.

Regardless of how you intend to view the eclipse, Mr Clayden reminds us that the full moon has a habit of bringing out our animal instincts.

"We might all be lunatics, so go out and have a look at it."

The webcast will be hosted at http://www.discoverychannel.com.au/eclipse

So yeah, my (current) belief system doesn't entertain "bad omens" and "bad luck" n' stuff like that, so for me I'm simply looking forward to the spectacle of it. For me it's a reminder of how wondrous our universe is and how sometimes it can appear to be quite magical.

Bring on the Blood Moon!!
