i'm not sure but i'd love to know since my birthday is on the winter solstice, dec. 21
The solstices and equinoxes mark the 4 points of the cardinal cross and are tied in with the Sun astrologically. This is of course the opposite in the northern and southern hemisphere (so when it is winter in one, it is summer in the other).
Generally speaking:
Vernal equinox - New birth (Spring), element: Fire.
Summer solstice - Peak energy time (Summer), element: Water.
Autumn equinox - Harvest time, element: Air.
Winter Solstice - Regeneration and rebirth, element: Earth.
How you are personally affected on any given year is not a general thing, but depends on what is going on with your chart (transits, progressions, etc.), so I would say (my completely non-expert opinion) that you could be more in tune with the energies of these events or not depending on what is personally going on in your life. The more in tune you are with them, the more you can manifest things having to do with that energy in your life.
