yes i agree.. i feel that it is most useful as a preventative treatement rather than a cure. like it works for me if i meditate as i am then able to handle stressful situations better, rather than getting stressed out in the first place and then meditating!
i live in a busy area where cars and trains go by all the time and sometimes i get distracted. anyone got any handy hints for me to improve my meditation?

I stopped to meditate regularly .
The reasons were that my senses grew oversensitive and i couldn't get along . Additionaly i developed a strange fear of something that was to happen to me .
Sure, while i was meditating everything was all good, but as soon as i finnished and went on in my day (like going to school) the impressions and all the different feelings were too much to handle and i couldn't concentrate .
Maybe someone has some suggestions ?

How did this get bumped?
Reor, I know you posted this years ago but incase anyone else has the same issue, that fear that is coming up and the hypersensitivity is because as you meditate your resistance dissolves away. That hypersensitivity is not hyper at all, it is in fact how your body would be naturally. The best thing to do is to embrace it, welcome it, and you will find that concentration comes as needed.

I think my meditation is a bit diffrent than every one else, I just sit stand or lay still for a few seconds take a few breaths. (simmilar to a CHI style) feel the energy flowing.

Hi Dodo,
You might start with 10-minute a day sessions. Choose something different each day to focus on such as visualising a colour, memorising and exploring a beautiful scene from nature or chanting a mantra such as OM.
Once you begin to enjoy and actually look forward to your meditation period, then increase the time by 5-minute increments. There are sources online of various other meditations that you can tap once you really get into it.

I know some people like to listen to music while meditating but noise in the background can still be a distraction, and having the music too loud to drown out the noise can be bad too. I bought some ear plugs which i use for meditating when the noise outside my house is distracting. Couple this with music and a windowless room and you can effectively shut out the outside world.

Wow I was surprised with how old this is and how varied we are with our meditation practices. Pretty awesome none the less.

I like to meditate by cleansing my chakras and visualizing the things that I hope to attain in my future. It definitely does help to do it first thing in the morning. When I first started I used to do it 3 times a day (for like 5 min or less) and it makes a huge difference. But now a days I do 1 to 2 meditations and it keeps me steady

Generally once a day for an hour, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I try to do it once a day, for a couple of hours.
It usually depends on how long I can keep my creative juices flowing when I do my art. usually between 2-3 hours...sometimes I start after the kids go to bed (at 7:30) and work all the way until 1 or 2 am without realizing it until I finally look up from my paper. lol
When I do my art all sounds around me just sort of go away, and I am at a full relaxed state while being one with myself. My hand just moves to the way I feel, no thinking involved. Sometimes a tune will pop into my head, or certain sounds or phrases while I do this, and I focus on that.
