I'm in the teaching field. It is very difficult to get a contract or long-term position as a teacher in my province, and I wonder if anyone has any feelings or thoughts as to if/when I will get a position. If so, what level (elementary, middle, high school), and what subjects? I am rather worried about this, as are many of my classmates.

I apologize for the selfish question, but I find that asking was the way to reduce my anxiety (even if just a little).

Thank you for any thoughts that you can provide smile.gif

I feel like they will be young students between 6 and 8 years old most of the students will be female,it will probably be maths or english but I also felt like you could teach history

I can appreciate your anxiety as I went through the same thing myself. But finally, after a lot of asking (of the Universe!) I was led to where I am now, in another country. Here, I teach adults and I really love my work. I'd just like to suggest that you do not limit yourself only to primary or high schools but also consider adult education institutions.

There are many adults, from young to older, who are seeking to improve themselves through education. My students have ranged in age from around 15 to 80-plus! If you look around a little, you may find some opportunities to work with them and help them. You might have to work some evenings or maybe even weekends, but the upside is that you can often have free time when others are at work. For example, it's after 2 pm here and I'm still at home as I teach evening classes today. smile.gif

Best regards,

Lenky

Yes, I am getting what Nigel says: young primary grades...

Difficult is not impossible Paige!

You have a lot to offer. Beside I have a feeling that the Universe wants you to be a teacher of young minds so you have nothing to worry about.

Just do your best at whatever you are doing and look ahead with hope.

Thank you nigel, Lenky, and Victoria, for your replies! smile.gif I feel better about this now...
I was hoping to eventually teach at the high school level. Though nigel and Victoria, you're probably right about the younger kids, as I will be qualified to teach junior kindergarten through grade 6 following graduation.

Thank you again. Your responses have given me hope and some confidence. smile.gif
nigel
hopefully you can find a position soon
Paige
Thank you, Nigel. smile.gif There will be a job fair for teaching jobs in February, and it's possible that I can get a position at that time. I really hope I do!!!! smile.gif

Thank you so much for your support!
