It's not true that one person's effort amounts to nothing on the global scale.

As I get ready to walk part of the way to the organic grocery with my 'green' bags I wonder what Guild members are doing to help address the climate and other environmental issues that we are facing.

Perhaps we can share our tactics for a better world.

That's a great question!

I feel like I'm not doing much at all to help look after the planet... I recycle, and I take public transit or walk most of the time... but I'm not sure what else I do. sad.gif

I must admit that I feel like I use far more electricity than I should. I feel so guilty about that, but I have a hard time staying away... sad.gif

I reuse and recycle whenever possible. I also maintain plants, trees and garden (organically, of course).

We recycling EVERYTHING we can. Nothing paper is ever thrown out. We have our own compost, we grow a lot of our own vegetables, I buy as much as I can from thrift stores or flea markets. We do not over use our heater or air conditioners. I am proud to say I have been able to get a school uniform and toy drive going at my kids school. We ask any one who can to bring in their kids old uniforms and usable toys to give away to other kids who do not have the resources to buy their own uniforms and toys.

No one is allowed to take more then a 5 minuet shower, they can sit in the bath for as long as they want, as long as no water is running, that goes for the faucet for brushing teeth also.

Lights are only used on a as needed basis. I make sure all of the none using appliances are unplugged, like coffee pot, microwave, TV. We do not use any plug in type units for air fresheners. We also only drive if we must.

I am one who isn't into the whole sky is falling, chicken little effect, on our climate issues, but am and always was one who is into preventiveness.

But this is something I have done for years, accept the composting, I just got that as a gift this past birthday.

There are so many little things one can do to help the environment. Unplugging and an all, unused appliances is a start, as is recycling everything that can be. As well as buying locally, rather then going down town or into the city to buy. turning down the thermostat on your water heater to 120 -F, give to the thrift stores your unwanted, good condition everything. NOT drinking out of plastic bottles of any type for any reason. Keep any leftovers AND EAT THEM! Thats the trick I know wink.gif tongue.gif Try not to eat out at restaurants or fast food joints like Burger King and McDonald's etc...

I don't think I'm doing much but at least I do make some effort.

I recycle the plastic bags over here as long as they don't smell of fish and meat.

I take short showers. The exception being when I wash my hair since I don't have a choice.

I hardly use air-con unless I need to or I'm feeling really hot, but I use the electronic fan as a substitute.

Turning off the main AC outlet when the computer is off (it does save energy since electricity still flows if you do not. Need proof? I once left the AC outlet turned on and my mouse felt warm the next morning.)

My phone bill report is now electronic, the phone company just sends me e-mail and a phone message when I have to pay my phone bill. Saves them paper, saves me physical storage space and saves the environment as a result. While I wasn't really used to this paperless method at first, it worked out somehow now.
