The Balance Process can be used to help you gain more certainty about what you are doing and is an excellent way to help you come to a final decision. It cuts through the indecisiveness very quickly and stops procrastination from wasting your valuable time.
Its quick, easy and effective and will only take about 10 minutes or less of your time. Those who are more left brain and work with an analytical mind will need a pen and paper, but those who work more from the right hand side of your brain and are more creative in nature with practice over time may be able to just think the process through.
"...YOU will be in control rather than it being in control of you"
The skills needed are an open mind, a willingness to see the others point of view and an open heart. Our perceptions and being judgmental starts with US. If we can learn to be more accepting of ourselves in the first instance and less judgmental and perhaps not as idealistic about our lives then this is a huge step to not being judgmental about others and being able to have an open look about how our perceptions are currently controlling our lives.
The Balance Process consists of 5 easy steps and can be completed on any thing, person or situation, which is troubling you, or you feel charged, angry or just perplexed about and are unable to come to a conclusion.
1. Firstly, think of a situation that is bothering you, or you are having trouble making your mind up about. Write this down briefly at the top of a writing size piece of paper.
2. Think about how you feel about it. Write down the first 5 feelings you have to portray how you feel. These could be things like upset, betrayed, angry, used, hurt. These are any words which fit after the words, I FEEL
3. Then divide the sheet of paper into 4 columns. On the top of the first column write the word POSITIVE and on the top of the 3rd column write the word NEGATIVE and go about filling these in. Write about 12 or as many as you can, positive and negative words in these columns to describe the situation in question.
4. On the top of the 2nd column put the heading DRAWBACK, this goes next to Positive and on the top of the 4th column put the heading BENEFIT, this goes next to the Negative column. Now go back and enter the drawbacks to the positives and enter the benefits to the negative things about the situation. Do 12 of each of these so that when you are finished you will have a balanced 12 in each column. If you dont have time to do 12 then do 4 or 5 of each.
5. Once you have this information in front of you, review the contents and now write down 5 words about how you now feel about the situation and see the difference. See how your perception has shifted
If your 5 words have not changed at all, then you need to keep working on the process. Now you will be in a far more balanced state of mind to tackle the situation or person on hand as YOU will be in control rather than it being in control of you...
Use The Balance Process for any situation that you need to step back and reflect on to have more certainty or to make a decision, which has been troubling you.
