Ever wondered what it is like to just know how to follow that inner voice? To have enough surety about yourself that you know it is the right thing to do, even though all the logic in the world cannot justify your decision? Having this knowledge and understanding is to have the competitive edge in the market place, it`s called having the intuitive edge and it can gain you greater results in whatever it is your doing, in your corporate or personal life.
Intuition is something that we all have as it is one of those given qualities, but trusting your intuition is a different matter, that is something that is learnt and sometimes the hard way. Id like to share a story with you about something that happened to me many years a ago which I have never forgotten and which had a big impact in my life in so many different ways.
About 10 years ago I got an opportunity to start a spiritual counseling business. It came at a time when I was looking for new opportunities to come into my life. But when I first started this business, people said it will n e v e r work, it will have all sorts of problems. They said are you ..m a d?, leaving your secure job to do t h i s. Youve got a beautiful unit, great car, travel every year and you could loose the lot. And yes it was a risk,.. And for a moment I began to question myself. I said to myself. They're right!! Am I out of my mind
..? But I felt
compelled. No, this was something I had to do. This was a door I had to open and I was going to embark on this journey, I felt that very strongly. So I went against all the skeptics, listened to my intuition and went ahead.
"They said are you ..m a d?, leaving your secure job to do t h i s."
What came next was the never-ending and tedious task of recruitment. And as I had spent over 10 years in the corporate industry as a Training Manager, I developed a very tight 3-step recruiting procedure.
But one particular consultant passed all the checkpoints, not only had he the required references and passed the practical consultation but 3 employees already working for us had referred him. Now logically he was eligible to be employed but intuitively I just didnt feel right about him. BUT because I was new in business and thought it was easier to go with the flow, so I ignored my instincts and put him on the team. Well
. before long he turned out to be a real troublemaker who set about disrupting the entire team and my business.
One year later, I put him off and found myself in an unfair dismal legal situation, which then went on for another year. Now if anyone has ever been through a legal situation then you will know how disruptive and stressful it can be, not to mention expensive. Its like sliding down the banner of life and the splinters appear to be standing the wrong way.
Fortunately by this time I had been introduced to a man called Dr. John Demartini whom I spent considerable time with studying universal laws. Dr. Demartini would say to me, what are the benefits of this situation, what are you learning, how is it serving you. Well, I couldnt see any benefits nor did I want to, but dutifully upon retiring and rising I would write down anything good I could see that was coming from this mess. And finally I started to get some answers.
I began to start the process of being truly grateful for what had happened to me.
Let's look at what happened.
Firstly, I was not sleeping well and all those sleepless nights of worry added up to one very stressed Jennifer. To be able to cope I started to look after my self. I eat better, drank more water, I exercised daily and I did all things the nutritionists tell us are good for us and I began to feel better, not only that I began to look better and I wondered if I had of made these positive changes in my life without this experience.
It was also a very expensive exercise. So I did some constructive cuts in the business and began to run my business a lot leaner and smarter.. I found other ways to do things. I was becoming a more effective business manger and was forced to learn skills that maybe I would not have learnt with out being in this situation.
The Disruption to other staff member and team were evident. I then learnt how to do effective team management and team building techniques to keep moral up. The morning and night exercises looking for the benefits were starting to pay off, hey maybe this is not so much of a bad thing after all.
And lets not forget that I was introduced to the legal profession. Now I am still not sure if this was a benefit or not but it did make me more worldly in the area of business, like being more streetwise. And I learnt the importance of keeping records, it gave me more business acumen. I became a stronger business manager.
"...So here was my greatest lesson of all To Trust My Intuition. "
But the main benefit I received was to learn how to trust my intuition and instincts. And that was a valuable gift. And one I have been grateful for ever since. You see I knew there was something not right about that person for my team and business, it doesnt mean that he was not good for someone else but he wasnt right for me and I went against that intuitive knowingness. I know now when I get that feeling which I call a gremlin that I trust it and dont go against it. You see our intuition is always there. Its that inner voice, the inner intelligence that we all have. My intuition was communicating to me that day but at the time I choose not to listen and go against it.
But in the end, it was David, my solicitor who gave me the opportunity to test out what I had learnt when he called and said he wanted me to go to a mediation meeting. And I said, do I have to legally be there? He said no, then I said, well Im not going and he said, the barrister John wants you to come.
I really didnt think it was the best thing to do but I said to him, look let me go away and think about it. The next minute I got a call from John the Barrister and he said to me. Jennifer you should be there and I said, you know
it just doesnt feel right and he said well youre being very foolish if you dont go.
And so I said No, I cant help it, it just doesnt feel right to be there. And we hung up. I felt a little shaky having gone against my barristers advice and hoped I had done the right thing as this now had been going on for just over 12 months.
Well needless to say I did not have a great nights sleep that night. But the next day David my solicitor phoned mid morning after the meeting and said, thank Goodness you didnt come. You made the right choice, he said
it was like a fire with dying ambers and if you had of been there, it would have been like putting another log on the fire and totally sparked up again. And that was the end of it! Because I didnt go into the mediation meeting it just dissolved with both parties walking away. What a relief!
So here was my greatest lesson of all To Trust My Intuition. And today I go with my inner voice every time, when I feel that gremlin there, I go with the inner knowledge that what I am feeling is right. So what a gift that situation was
..Never again will I hesitate to trust my intuition, that was the turning point
We all have intuitive feelings, but sometimes we choose to go with the more logical way and the ideal is to blend the intuitiveness with the logical more analytical. But like me even if we get it wrong it can be our greatest blessing
.
Also it demonstrated to me that there is always another side of the coin, things are not generally not as bad as they seem.
So, dont be too quick to judge the situations in your life, which you feel are negative, they may indeed have a silver lining
