IT MUST BE UNDERSTOOD THAT ASTROLOGY:
1. Does not moralise; the birth chart is a blue print of the person's possible weakness and strengths: choice of action is still the individuals to improve on the negative qualities. Some of these negatives can be very nasty such as drug addiction or homosexual/lesbian or criminal tendencies. Never take any bad written in your chart as a personal attack upon yourself but they are still tendencies to some individuals. If you should notice some not so nice comments but have not at this stage lived any of the negatives out - Please do not go out and start living them to prove my point. They are the bad points you need to correct in yourself.
2. Has no religious bias; but indicates the fundamental equality of all human beings; of all racial groups; each a significant part of the Cosmic Whole we believe to be the superior being -whatever religious name you choose to use etc. Ha Shem (Hebrew); Allah (Arabic); Jehovah (Christian - [which happens to be a mistranslation from Hebrew as there is no J in the Hebrew language]; Krishna (Hindu) etc.
3. Does not imply a predetermined fate: each man has free-will or choice of action within the necessary limitations of that person's birth chart - example of this is a transit chart of somebody I know personally. She was possibly heading for a nervous breakdown in Mid August that year because she was burning the candles both ends. By changing her life style a bit before the crisis date she avoided illness.
"There is a 'spiritual factor' in each one of us that cannot be interpreted through astrology..."
4. Cannot solve your problems for you; but can perhaps show you the way to correctly handle them. Dr. Carl Jung has said, 'the most important problems of life are all fundamentally insoluble'; they can never be solved, only outgrown, and does this by accepting the problem and developing further by means of over-coming it. A chart is unique, it can indicate the correct lines of acceptance, and the compensating factors within the nature and life-pattern. With the exception of severely afflicted charts at birth, a basic truth in astrology is that there is no such thing as an intrinsically bad horoscope; there are only poorly handled ones.
Fate and Free-will
You may believe that if the future can be fore-told and we no longer have free-will, we are enmeshed in an irrevocable fate we cannot escape. No astrologer worth their salt would claim to be able to predict every event. He/she can predict a definite event or the details of any movement in nature. He or she is like the weatherman who may forecast rain but cannot predict who will actually get wet. The reason why they should not try because of what is called 'the margin of uncertainty'. An astrological aspect with regard to the future can correspond with any one of a variety of possibilities, mostly dependent upon the 'freedom of choice' of the individual concerned, yet the aspect still foretell the actual trend of circumstances. This so-called fore-telling is done in what is called a transit chart which is made up by taking the original Natal Birth Chart, then working with an Ephemeris working out where the Transiting Planets are in relation to your original Natal Planet Placements and the Houses they are placed in at the time of your birth. Often there can be an undercurrent in a person's personality that they cannot generally related to but they come into play during a particular transit of the two planets involved. Eg: An aspect of Sun Sextile Mercury in a Natal Chart only shows itself during a Transit involving those two planets because it is a weak aspect and others in the Chart are generally stronger.
Religion Generally it has been the Christian religions that have disapproved of astrology, although it is known that some Popes consulted astrologers in the past. In fact it is known that Pope Pius XII consulted his personal friend Louis De Wohl during the second world war. Usually the religious argument is:
(a) Fate and free-will
(b) The Almighty never intended man to 'see into the future' - which happens the be only one aspect of astrology anyway.
(c) Astrology is blasphemous, the influence of the Devil, since the Sun and the planets were the pagan gods of primitive man. I will not argue that point, it is correct - all planets are named after some pagan gods but no astrologer these days is suggesting you worship them either.
Some religious leaders themselves have been astrologers themselves - a couple that come to mind are:
(a) Rev Marc Edmund Jones who wrote a book called Astrology - How and Why It Works, happened to be a Christian minister
(b) Rabbi M. Glazerson wrote a book called "Above the Zodiac giving a positive Jewish point of view.
There has been many in other religions as well but I unfortunately do not have their names to hand.
Astrology Condemned Through Ignorance Astrology has stimulated the minds of profound thinkers and scientists for thousands of years, yet it is still to this every day and age condemned as nonsense by those who have not studied the subject. In 1894 Michael and Francoise Gauquelin, both scientists, set out to disprove astrology only to be convince of its truth. How did they do this? They analysed natal charts of 6,000 sporting champions, 10,000 scientists 18,000 actors and 16,000 writers for particular character traits associated by astrologers with particular planets. In charts of the sporting champions, Mars, planets of energy, drive, courage and will was especially prominent. What makes a planet PROMINENT? Mars for example - [rules both Aries and Scorpio]. These people most likely had their Mars in either sign or the 1st or 8th house. The 1st house is naturally ruled by Aries and the 8th house is naturally ruled by Scorpio. Ignorance breeds prejudice, and against the prejudiced there can be no argument. It is a waste of precious time to engage in explanation with the critic who has not studied astrology and doesn't intend to enlighten themselves with the truth of the matter.
Popular Astrology The 'Lucky Star' features in the newspapers and women's periodicals may be the only astrology a lot of people ever read. These forecasts are based only on the position of the Sun in the 12 Signs of the Zodiac. Each sign covers the identical one-month period of any year (Sun in Aries would be 21st March - 20th April). It has NO SCIENTIFIC BASIS AT ALL. On a certain day all the millions of people born under the same Sun sign will meet 'a tall handsome stranger' or find it 'a good afternoon for going on a journey'. No wonder that anyone who has no real knowledge of what astrology is all about thinks of it as an amusing parlour game, a medieval superstition that won't hold up to the light.
There are daily forecasts based on the Sun related to the rest of the planets for a given day, and sensibly interpreted, can indicate very general tendencies in the live of those born with certain signs strongly emphasised in their individual Natal Charts (and make-up). For instance, if the planet Saturn were now transiting (remember Transit Charts they are called) was on a given day very close to the position occupied by the Natal Sun in your chart, there would be a tendency for feelings of limitations and frustration.
Popular Astrology with regards to Character reading based on the Sun Sign alone definitely indicate basic tendencies in the nature of the person, yet only in a general sense when not considered with the whole planetary pattern for a given moment of birth. Example of this is a girlfriend of mine who is on the cusp of Gemini and Cancer. Her Sun Sign is Gemini and she has a lot of planets in Cancer. Without knowing her well she would appear Gemini - over talkative, the eternal student but one very BIG HICCUP here - Money she does not spend like a Gemini but holds on fast like a Cancer. Her Moon Sign is Cancer - next most important planet to the Sun sign, especially as she is female and the Moon is a feminine planet. No one person is ever a pure anything - Aries, Taurus you name it. There are 11 points in a Natal Chart - two of which are no planets but the Rising Sign and Mid-heaven.
Twins How does an astrologer account for differences in twins born practically together? The Rising Sign, indicative of very individual characteristics in the birth chart, changes its degree every 4 minutes, and the Rising sign could change within a single minute, introducing marked variations. Example of this would be one twin with the Rising Sign Pisces and the other born just 10 minutes later has Aries as a Rising Sign. The Aries Rising twin would be the more outward going personality of the two. You can also have a situation where both twins have the same Rising Sign both one of them will have more planets in one house than the other. Example of this would been one, twin is 6 degrees Aries - the other 18 degrees (therefore his houses lines are different). The second twin has his Sun sitting in the second house, the first twin his Sun in the First House - therefore making him the more outward of the two. The second twin would be more money conscious than the first. Even Siamese twins must differ. There is a 'spiritual factor' in each one of us that cannot be interpreted through astrology. This is the source of free-will; individuality in its truest sense. Siamese twins will have almost, yet never quite, identical bodies, but, as all who believe in a Divine Creator would agree, their own essence of 'eternal spirit'.
