In the distance I saw him walking….who was he? The mist whirled around him like a cloak and as he was caught up in his thoughts he didn’t see me. I was about to ask him who he was but felt that any speech would have broken the mystery and magic of the moment because magic it certainly was.
He gave the impression of someone who was taking time away from his normal pursuits to enjoy a quiet time in the forest with no one to ask anything of him. He smiled as he walked on moving among the trees, stopping every now and then to listen and communicate with the forest animals who normally would be hiding….but not from him. Who was he?
As I moved further into the forest watching him curiously, I could see a dagger hanging from his belt. But he did not give the impression this would be used to hurt a living creature. .so why was it there, and, who was he?
Some birds fluttered down on a low branch near him and he stopped to greet them. They dropped a glittering object on the ground and he stooped to pick it up…..it was a gold coin. Why did he need a gold coin in the forest and who was he?
"...He replied that it was not important; only the being here was."
As he walked on he stopped to pick up a small branch from a tree and used it as a stick to help him move down the embankment towards the stream. He obviously knew this part of the forest because as he came to the edge of the stream he pushed some leaves aside and picked up a goblet with which he scooped up some water….who was he?
Moving down the side of the stream, he stopped, turned and saw me but did not say anything. Upon coming to a fallen branch he placed his goblet, walking stick, gold coin and dagger neatly on it and asked me if I wanted to join him and learn about some magical arts from a time long gone. He also asked me if I knew who he was and when I told him “no” he replied that it was not important; only the being here was. How could I resist such an opportunity, particularly when he smiled and his face looked like he was keeping secrets from many centuries past.
I walked up and introduced myself and sat down as he began some form of incantation with one hand pointing skyward and one towards the earth. What was he doing and why? After what appeared to be a very short time, he stopped, smiled and handed me a pouch in which was gold coin similar to the one he placed on the fallen branch.
I felt the time had come for me to return from my walk but before I left this stranger and had to know the answer to one question and without any fear I asked him who he was?
He smiled again and without any hesitation said
I am THE MAGICIAN.
