The phone, whether it's a mobile phone, business or your personal number, is an integral part of today's communication so here are a few hints as to how to handle your phone correspondence.
When Do I Give My Number Out
Flirting is one thing, but when do you go that step further and give your phone number out? The answer to this is not until you feel all right about doing so. If in doubt, then don't pass your number on. Or, you can always give your business or work number first or your mobile number and use caller ID. If you feel better about communicating through your email address then this is a good way to start. If they want your personal number and you don't want to give it, don't feel bullied into giving it, just say that you would like to get to know them a better before handing out your personal number. Let's face it, if you have only just met someone, then you really don't know who they are or what they're like so it's best to be on the cautious side to begin with. If they're genuine then they won't mind you being on the cautious side, in today's world, this is a very understandable quality to have.
Who Calls First
There is nothing worse than sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. Instead, why don't you get their number and then you are in control. Men don't always get around to calling, they get tied up and then they think they've left it too late and don't bother. Also, they worry about being rejected so they just don't call or maybe they lost your number, who knows. There are all sorts of reasons why a man doesn't call; it doesn't mean they're not interested. It is quite acceptable these days for the female to make the call and this way you can decide if you want to call or not, rather than waiting on them to make the decision.
Call Or Ignore
Oh, he or she has called and now you‘ve decided that having a little flirtatious moment was nice, but you don't really want to follow it up and you've given them your number. Well of course, if it comes on your answering machine then you can just ignore it, but this is being a bit rude and I'm sure you wouldn't like them to do that to you. Call and say it was nice to hear from him or her, but you have decided that you're not really ready for a relationship, or you wouldn't mind going out casually as a friend now and again if that's the way you feel. You can always be busy right now, if you need more time to think about it. If you take this tack, then it's a good idea to leave it a few days before you call back, because if you call straight away, your eagerness might give them the wrong impression. This way, you can still run into him or her without it being an awkward situation and it's a far more honest approach.
Over Evaluation
Don't put too much into a phone call. Just because he or she calls, doesn't mean that they are absolutely hot for you and this is the prince or princess you have been waiting for. You don't know, he or she may have already been out on two other dates that week so slow down and take it as it comes. Get to know them as a friend first and see what they're like before rushing into anything. Don't be so eager to be there for him or her. Your personal email address maybe, but take it slow with the other details and under no circumstances would I recommend that you give out your personal phone number or address, until you are absolutely sure. If you want to have phone contact then give out your work or mobile number. You really don't know this person apart from the email communication so if you arrange to meet them it‘s a good idea to do it with a friend. You can make it a foursome or at least go somewhere for coffee or a drink in a public place. After you meet a few times, you can take it further if it feels ok.
