Like everybody else in the world, I did not start in this line of work. My journey into the World of Counselling actually started with tarot, then onto doing astrology.
I studied with the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I achieved my Certificate of Basic Counselling Skills in 1997. I decided at that point that I wish to be a counsellor only and not continue studies further to be a psychologist. However, I continue to read books on the subjects of human relationships, health issues and other related subjects. One of my favourite psychologist is Dr. Phil on the T.V. The other is an author called Barbara de Angelis who happens to be John Gary's first wife. Who John Gary? He wrote the Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus series.
The different between Counselling and therapy is is that therapy is an ongoing process whether it is for yourself or family. This can be for months or even years. Counselling is about just assisting you with decisions or giving the client a safe place to express their feelings or thoughts. Sometimes we feel we need to talk but feel that if we express our true selves to our family or marriage partner that there will be an emotional explosion or some other type of negative consequence.
A counsellor's role is to assist their client in either establishing their feelings on any given subject or perhaps expresses their feelings to find relief from stress. It is our role as Counsellors to empower you so you can make your decisions coming from a source of strength and not fear, so you can improve your own life. It is never a counsellor's job to tell you what you should do or what to do.
