Fans of Paul the Octopus are mourning his death and expressing their feelings via Twitter. Paul was the sea creature that amazed the world with his accurate predictions of the 2010 World Cup. He died Monday night.

During the World Cup in South Africa, Paul was able to correctly predict the winners as he correctly chose a muscle from two boxes that represented the two competing team-nations. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad even labeled Paul as the symbol of Western propaganda and superstition.

Oberhausen Sea Life Center in Germany is where Paul used to live. Right now, its staff is still deciding on how they will commemorate Paul’s life. “We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine,” said Stefan Porwoll, the facility manager.

With Paul’s death, his competitor, Mani the Parakeet, is expected to be Paul’s successor. But to his dismay, psychic sports animal enthusiasts are already out in search for Paul’s successor.
