The Weight of our Cares

If you have been carrying extra weight - maybe for a long time, ever since you were young - it's because sometimes we store our hurts in these 'fat' pockets all over our body. They consist of our memories of being hurt, and we cover them with extra fat so as to keep them safe from any further harm or perhaps even to bury them or hide them from ourselves. They don't go away though, no matter how much we diet and exercise. Or else they come back when we thought they had gone.

If you truly want to lose weight and return to the natural effortlessly slim state that is everyone's real being, then you have to let go of these memories of old pain. You may or may not have to go into each one to recall what the memory was and deal with it, or you may be able to just let go with forgiveness - for those who hurt you and also for yourself who chose the experience in order to grow and learn. You need to acknowledge that you are a different person now to the old 'you' who endured the experience. These were bad times, yes, but they did burn in you forever the valuable lesson and new understanding, and ignite the strength that came from surviving them. If you can be this new person that is more enlightened and less naive than the old person who endured the pain, you can be grateful for the experience and to all those involved. No matter what their conscious motives were, they helped you move on and evolve. The painful experiences burned you in a fire of hurt that stripped away your old mistaken beliefs and tempered you like a sword. They made you more able to cope and survive. Be grateful and forgive all those pockets of memory that you are holding in your body. Then simply let them go, maybe imagining you are pulling out the cork from a bottle or a plug from a balloon and watching as the contents flow out and away from you.

Do this everyday until your physical body corresponds by releasing all the physical fat that is no longer useful to you for protection. It will have lost its purpose in your newer better life. You don't need protecting since you have become a lot stronger and wiser for your experiences. You are really saying goodbye to the past and letting it go. All you really need to exist in is the present moment and that goes for your memories too. Every minute of our life we are changing and growing, every day we can choose to wake up as a new person, free of old issues and pain. Let go of the less knowledgable self you used to be and with it, all the hurt and pain of the past. It no longer can have any control over or meaning for the person you are now.

Phew! ...

that's pretty powerful.

It's going to make a difference to a lot of people on here, including me.

Thank you for sharing.

EDIT: I like to call the process "(RE)GAINING SLIMNESS."

Someone once told me that we seek to recapture what we lose. ;)

I started Qigong yesterday and dealt with perplexing negative emotions and headaches all day, even in my dreams last night. After reading this thread, it all makes sense. Negative emotions are rising to the surface to be acknowledged and released. Wow!

Of course, not everyone carries their hurts in such a physical way. Some people who are not overweight may carry internal emotional or mental 'pockets' of pain which may manifest in such tangible ways as headaches or anxiety attacks, for example. Our Higher Consciousness will get through to us in some obvious way that there is still inner work to be done and issues that are still bothering us. That's why we need to regularly 'spring-clean' our psyches to toss out any old baggage that doesn't have anything to do with who we are now.

My very non-spiritual approach to this topic...haha

I actually agree that it can cause people to retain excess weight. It's how our bodies react to stress, and of course emotional pain is a stressor. Our bodies can't tell the difference between stress from low resources and emotional suffering. The same system kicks into gear and our cortisol rises which can cause retention of fats in some people. Even if a person doesn't gain weight, s/he may still suffer from ill health effects from emotional strain.

There is a good reason to face past hurts and heal, completely. Not only does it take off psychological burden, but your body takes it as a signal that you are no longer in a threatening situation and therefore function may return to normal. :)
